African fashion has been represented in high-end couture lines since the 1960s when Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne presented African-inspired collections. Over the past few years, African designers such as Duro Olowu, Deola Sagoe, Jewel By Lisa and Tiffany Amber have established their presence in the fashion world. Fashion Tribes is a series of posts on 1TribeRadio highlighting African fashion. Fashion Tribe: Last Week’s Best Dressed List
This week was definitely a great one for the fashion tribe. Our fave fashionistas were definitely giving us life as some great looks debuted at concerts and magazine shoots last week. This list is not limited to celebrities so if you know some everyday folks who you think should be on our best dressed list tag #fashiontribe to an image on instagram or twitter.
5. Emma Nyra
Only Emma can make white booty shorts and a crop top without looking skanky. She was killing it on stage at the Iyanya concert in London. I know she has gotten some flack for her skimpy dressing but I definitely approve. If you’ve got it, flaunt it and Emma is definitely flaunting it!
4. Not sure if they are a couple of friends but I love them as a fashion duo. Really love the silk flower prints on the girl. And kudos to the guy for pulling off a flower print bow tie. Lately I have become a sucker for pocketfolds on guys **le sigh!
3. Tiwa Savage
From her album cover to her last music video shoot, Tiwa is definitely rocking the all-white trend. Why not? It looks great on her. Here she is right before the Celebrating Women event with Dionne Warwick at Eko Hotel in Lagos.
2. Toke Makinwa.
This dress is by Ejiro Amos Tafiri the creator of the “oleku wrap dress’ which I will do a feature on later. The structure of the nude dress provides a fairytale elegant look.
1. Eku Edewor
Eku is a presenter on MNET’s tv show Studio 55 and she is definitely one of the most fashionable Nigerians in my opinion. Here she is rocking a shirt by Rehabia and a Josh Samuel suit. Inspired by the 1920sand the Great Gatsby Eku transformed this look and made it feminine and sexy. I just love! love! this. Great job by ZedEye (stylist).
