The music world is indeed full of young talented people yet to be discovered. Meet Ebony Oshunrinde , also known as “WonderGurl“, the music prodigy behind the beats of Jay-Z‘s “Crown” from his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail. And she is only 16 waouh!
In her interview with CBC (a Canadian online information source), the young girl said she started learning how to produce beats after watching a video of Jay-z and Timbaland in the studio. She was 9 years old then. At 14, she participated in a beats battle in toronto (Toronto’s battle of the beat makers) and made it through the quarterfinals where she was eliminated. But she did not give up! She participated the following year and won.
She actually sent the track “Crown” to Houston based rapper DJ Travis Scott, who somehow managed to give it to Jay-Z.
“A few days after, DJ Travi$ Scott messaged me and said I’m about to change your life. He called me actually and then said you’re on Jay-Z’s album and like congratulations […] I felt like crying.”
When asked what her next goal is, she said to win a Grammy!… Well with the track I just heard, we have not seen or heard the best of WonderGurl yet, because she sure is a promising young artist/producer!
“You can do anything that you want. Not even in music, in anything that is male dominated, you can do it. Just try.”
